Welcome to your classroom blog! My name is Ms. Avila and I will be your
teacher this year at Timothy Christian School.
Since this is the first time I will be your teacher, perhaps I should
tell you a bit about myself. To start
with…I love the Lord! I strive to be “Invisible
to make Jesus Visible in all I do.” (ok, so I borrowed a great line from
LeCrae). In Colossians 3:23-24 it says: “Whatever
you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human
masters, since
you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It
is the Lord Christ you are serving.” With that said; I take my job as your teacher
very seriously because I know God has given me a great opportunity and blessing
in working with young people just like you! I have worked as a teacher for
almost 15 years, 11 of those years were at West Orange High School teaching
English to international students and working with American born freshmen. I have also worked teaching English at Kean
University on and off since…well….since a long time ago! (some of you were not even born yet…which
makes me feel really old!). I’m Latina (Puerto
Rican) and proud of my heritage and of being bi-lingual...hablan Español? In addition, I’m a mom to a great kid that
will also be new to TCS this year and wife to my fun-loving Colombian
husband. Trust me, you will hear about
them in class. When people ask me about
my background I say “I’m a jerseyrican…born in Puerto Rico, but raised in
Jersey.” So don’t be surprised if you
learn some Spanglish (English and Spanish) while taking notes or studying a
novel in class.
Enough about me, now let’s talk about this blog. This
blog is a resource for the classes I teach.
You will find links, videos, and information to help you do your best in
my classes. I also use this blog to post
special assignments and projects. You
can also visit my other blogs: Ms. A's ESL
(for international students learning
English) or Jersey International Cuisine
(a foodie blog) any time you want. I am happy to be able to work with you and
pray for a blessed school year!
